The 4 Most Romantic Getaways in Morocco, According to Our Artisans

From Tangier to the Agafay Desert, here are the best places to stay in Morocco, according to The Nopo artisans

There’s something inherently romantic about Morocco–the winding souks of Marrakech, bustling yet intimate, the dazzling blue coast of Essaouira, the sloping, bucolic villages in the Atlas Mountains, the vast expanses of the Agafay Desert. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we asked some of our women artisans based in Morocco to share their favorite romantic getaways in this breathtaking country. If your goal is to relax, connect, explore, and absorb the beauty of Morocco, here are some of the best places to visit and stay.

Fadwa of IDYR Design:

“For a romantic vacation, I suggest north Morocco, like Tangier, Tetouan, and the cities around there. It's calm and the views are wonderful! Just a simple picnic with those views can renew your mind. The cafes and restaurants are effortlessly romantic.

Near Casablanca, I recommend Eco-lodge Safa Boulaouane – it’s calm and natural, and couples can spend the night there and feel like they're detached from the rest of the world. It’s romantic, healthy, there’s no pollution, [they serve] natural fresh food, and you can relax in the traditional buildings. Don't forget a comfy or sporty outfit to take the most of it. Ps: it's cold at night!”

Laila of Soy Laila:

“There's one [romantic getaway] I enjoyed with my husband in Tangier. It's called Aux 3 Portes. The place is located in Tangier's Kasbah and used to be three houses transformed into one single place. That’s why it's called Aux Trois Portes, which means ‘the three doors.’"

"The decoration is pretty unique with vintage furniture from all over the world and a touch of French classics. It has a lovely garden with a view to Gibraltar Detroit. There are many good restaurants near the hotel as well. I would walk through the medina, discover different cafes, galleries and views. I also recommend going to Parc Perdicaris–the hotel can book a taxi for you. Or you can rent a car so you can visit the beaches near Tangier."

Souad of Rchima Design:

“For me, the best romantic getaway for Valentine’s Day is the Riad Atlas Toubkal in Imlil, 69 km from Marrakech. It’s perfect for couples who love mountains, adventures, and the beauty of nature. Imlil is my favorite spot since I moved to Marrakech–it makes me connect with my inner soul and nature. I recommend the Atlas Toubkal, which has the best service I've ever had in my life. I recommend Imlil for everyone who gets stressed out in the city or for couples who love hiking and the beauty of nature as the main activity in that area is hiking."

"The Agafay Desert, 45 minutes from Marrakesh, is also an ideal place to disconnect from the stress of the city. Its landscapes make you feel connected directly to the beauty of the stony desert. It's a perfect spot for a romantic sunset during your camel tour.”

The Nopo Staff Picks

With all this talk of exploration and Moroccan beauty, our staff at The Nopo got inspired to do some research and found two gorgeous spots in Marrakesh that we just couldn’t help but add to the list. Fingers crossed, they're where we’ll be taking ourselves on our next company retreat!

Maison Anaroze

Maison Anaroze is a riad located in Marrakesh’s old medina that embodies the quintessential design ethos of Morocco. This tranquil riad is outfitted with a curated assortment of unique pieces made by local artisans and treasures found at the neighboring flea markets and souks. Complete with a refreshing pool in the main courtyard surrounded by lush plants and Moroccan pillows and rugs, there’s also a rooftop that provides an ideal setting for a romantic sunset. It doesn’t get much more idyllic than this!

Berber Lodge

Berber lodge is a rural retreat located in the village of Oumnes, 30 minutes from Marrakesh. The lodge is inspired by traditional Berber architecture and was built using local resources and craftsmen. The lodge’s walls were built with the garden’s earth to create adobe briques and the terra-cotta tiles were locally custom made in a neighboring village. The decoration is a mix between local craftsmanship and the owner’s personal collection of 20th century design furniture found in Morocco or from Family.
