Meet The Artisans

M.A. Estudio

Melissa Avila studied fine arts and worked in educational programs in the arts for more than 10 years. Focusing on community, inclusion, and creative education, she was Director of Education for the Digital Culture Center in CDMX for 6 years before starting her own brand, M.A. Studio.

M.A. Studio was born in 2017 out of the desire to combine Melissa’s artistic production with Mexican artisanal techniques to produce home décor pieces inspired by Mexico’s history, people, and indigenous world views of this magical country.

By marrying design with a close work relationship with each and every one of the artisans they collaborate with, M.A. Studio is able to preserve traditions and promote artisanal processes, Mexican trades, and collaborative projects, using work methods based on tradition and intersecting personal and collaborative work.

M.A. Studio employs socially responsible practices, environmental care schemes, and fair trade methods. Their aim is to provide job opportunities, promote creative education, and boost inclusion and community work. They seek to honor the roots, tools, and knowledge inherited from Mexican ancestors and explore them through contemporary art and design practices.
