Meet The Artisans

Piedra Fuego

Mexico

Mexican multidisciplinary artist Aldo Ávarez Tostado trained as an architect before expanding his practice to visual arts and object design. He founded his studio piedrafuego in 2013 to create interior decor items inspired by the territory and living traditions of Western Mexico.

Aldo collaborates with master artisans in six different municipalities in the states of Jalisco and Nayarit, using techniques such as woodturning, ceramics, horsehair weaving, and basalt and Cantera stone carving.

With his varied background and keen eye for modern, utilitarian design, Aldo creates beautiful objects of interior decor that blur the lines between design, architecture, and art. From his newly built studio in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Aldo and his team of master artisans have created pieces that have traveled as far as the London Design Fair and the Palacio de Bellas Artes to name but a few.

Raised in San Pancho, Nayarit, Aldo fuses influences and references from his visual arts to inform his design and vice versa. As an artist, he is interested in exploring the notion of country as a political fabrication, and through the years he has been on several art residencies and biennales, as well as founding his own artist-run space Todomundo in 2021 and building works of architecture in Jalisco, Nayarit, and Cambridge (UK).
