The bowl's striking dark hues, reminiscent of the night sky, are the source for its name: 'The place of the nine stars' in ancient Mexican cosmology, alludes to where light is captured and kept safe.
The bowl a natural choice for placing on a mantlepiece or side table, as a receptacle for fresh fruit or any other item.
