Botera Table Lamp
Mixing the Paja Tetara straw and Chamba ceramics, two very traditional materials in Colombian handicrafts, the gorgeous Botera Table Lamp is a feat of design and craftsmanship. The lampshade is woven in a natural fiber coming from an endemic palm tree by Liliana, an artisan from the Eperara Siapidara ethnic group from the indigenous reservation of Guangui in Timbiquí, in Colombian Cauca.
The fiber is naturally stained using roots, leaves and seeds. The artist then draws shapes using the chromatic differences in the straw, just like a painter would with paint. The base is instead made of Chamba, an endemic red clay that is then colored using different open burnishing, by artisans from La Chamba, a traditional potter town in Tolima.
