The Guatemalan backstrap loom is an ancient artisan technique that developed in the western mountains of Guatemala long before the Spanish. The uncorked thread is used to make bands of different widths and then interwoven. Currently, these beautiful home decor pieces are made by Guatemalan refugee artisans that are now located in the Yucatan Peninsula, combining both cultures in each special piece.
